Lauren Mantecón
b. 1964 in Providence, RI

Lauren Mantecón is a Portland-based painter and educator who fluidly traverses the material and spiritual realms.  Beyond the settings of studio and classroom, this is an authentic reflection of how she greets life. Mantecón’s dedicated visual practice is a vehicle to navigate the energetic terrains of identity and place, and her paintings articulate what is revealed in the process.

Mantecón has exhibited her work extensively across the Western United States, as well as in New York and Mexico. She has completed residencies with the Djerassi Residents Program, Jentel, Caldera, Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, and her work is included in several public and private collections. Mantecón has taught as an Adjunct Professor at Portland State University, University Of Portland, and Portland Community College. Currently she leads workshops with diverse populations around the country. Mantecón earned an MFA in Painting from Portland State University and a BA in Photography from California State University Fullerton.
